WhatsApp is a widely used tool, not only for home users but also for businesses. It provides an encrypted messaging platform that’s cost-effective and reliable (usually). It also provides free calling and messaging across borders over Wi-Fi and Mobile data.
However, it has become a target for threat actors and scammers as WhatsApp usage increases.
Here are some security tips:
Enable Two-Step Verification
Enabling Two-step verification adds an additional level of protection to your WhatsApp account.
- Open WhatsApp, and click the Settings gear icon to go to Settings on iPhone. On Android, click on the three-dot menu and tap on the Settings.
- In the Settings menu, click on the Account
- Now click on the Two-step verification
- Click on the Turn on and enter the pin you want to set
- For best practices, add the email address base if you forget the pin.

Don’t Share your codes
Never share your registration code or two-step verification PIN with others.
If you receive unrequested emails or messages to reset your two-step verification PIN or registration code, don’t click on any links. Someone could be attempting to access your phone number on WhatsApp.
Devices attached to your account
Check your linked devices regularly.
Go to WhatsApp Settings > Linked Devices to review all devices linked to your account.
To remove a linked device, tap the device > Log Out.
Lastly…
Always keep your WhatsApp software up to date. New security fixes and bug patches are released on a regular basis.
